Avoid Flowery Self-descriptions
When crafting your resume, don’t list anything that resembles your opinion of yourself, because here’s how it could translate...
Free spirit = undisciplined
Visionary = self-absorbed
Superior = narcissistic
Exceptional = proud
Genius = doesn’t value others
Entrepreneurial = never finishes anything
Humble = pretentious
High profile = high maintenance
Multitalented = scatter brained
World renowned = a legend in your own mind
Admired = a show-off
Persuasive = bossy
World-class = arrogant
Masterful = a royal pain
I’m a prize = booby prize
And my all-time favorite…“Serial Entrepreneur,” which means the individual likely has a really bad case of bright-shiny-object syndrome and rarely finishes anything.
Just write about what you’ve achieved and leave the flowery descriptions to your references; it’ll have greater impact and be far more genuine.
