Your Grandma Was Right
This morning, a job seeker interviewed with a Talent Acquisition Specialist via ZOOM TEXT. The job seeker was asked to provide her home address to which a check would be sent; she was then to deposit that check into her bank account and purchase supplies from an approved vendor. She texted the Talent Acquisition Specialist that she’d come across employment scams before and was skeptical about providing such information.
She then sent me all the information and I started squirreling around LinkedIn to see what I could find. The Talent Acquisition Specialist had a full LinkedIn profile and the company had over 1,900 current employees so it all seemed legit….BUT the interview-via-text was a tip-off, plus the email address belonging to the Talent Acquisition Specialist didn’t quite match up to the hiring company’s domain name, so I sent the Talent Acquisition Specialist this note via LinkedIn:
Hi X
This will probably be the strangest inmail you get today. I'm a recruiter and have been coaching Y through her job search process. Over the past few months, she's received several scam emails for jobs, so she's very cautious about providing information. She mentioned today that she received from you a request to provide her mailing address so you could send a check, with which she'd purchase materials required to work for your company.
I just wanted to reach out and confirm it is legit. My sincere apologies if I've overstepped. There are just so many employment scams out there.
Much obliged to you for your time!
Cheers
Jane
I got this note back from him in LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!
Hi Jane,
Please tell her that is not me. It’s a scam. I am currently working with my IT department and trying to get this solved. I don’t want anyone to get scammed and I don’t want it to reflect poorly on my current company. Thank you for messaging me!

YOUR GRANDMA WAS RIGHT; if something seems too good to be true…it probably is. If the job interview process resembles ANYTHING along the lines of your receiving a check then depositing it into your bank account…BLOCK THAT PHONE NUMBER AND EMAIL ADDRESS! NOW!
BE ON YOUR GUARD...THERE ARE CREEPY PEOPLE OUT THERE!
