Don't be "PMP Bob"

Applicant Tracking Systems are programmed to assume your name will be the first words on your resume.

If you list education or certifications immediately after your name (using a comma as a separator), the ATS might assume whatever is listed after the comma is part of your name.

This on your resume......can become......this in the ATS

Bob Smith, PhD      PhD Bob Smith

Bob Smith, PMP   PMP Bob Smith

If whomever is uploading your resume into the ATS doesn’t notice that your name format includes a comma, your name might upload incorrectly, and then they won’t be able to find you in the system.

Pro-Tip: If you want to list something after your name, put it on the line UNDERNEATH your name. Your email and phone number are recognizable strings of characters, so they will get picked up and put into the right field in the ATS.  Here are a couple of examples:

_____________________________________________

                     Bob Smith

          PhD

City, State Zip – Email address – Phone #

_____________________________________________

          Bob Smith

                         PMP

City, State Zip – Email address – Phone #
