Don’t ghost!
Dear Job Seeker,
I know recruiters and hiring managers have ghosted you for decades, but playing the same game isn’t the right way to go.
It only takes a hot minute to send a reply and let the recipient know you’re not interested in being considered for a job. If you close out the process PROFESSIONALLY but then change your mind down the road, hiring managers and recruiters will be much more open to re-engaging.
The adage “don’t insult the alligator until you cross the bridge” SHOULD really be “NEVER insult the alligator, because you NEVER KNOW when you have to come BACK across that bridge!”
I fully admit, dear Job Seeker, that YOU have taken the brunt of the ghosting for DECADES. At times, it has been cruel and unusual punishment, and you’ve wasted incredible amounts of time and energy waiting to get that promised follow-up email or call. I’m so sorry you experienced that.
We should ALL do better...on BOTH sides of the desk.
DEAR EVERYONE, just take a moment and send a reply. Whether it’s a “Yes” or a “No,” ...just say so. Politely.
Thank you so much!
Cheers,
Jane
