How to Avoid Typos & Bloopers
You’ve read your resume 50 times and found no mistakes, so you give it to a colleague to read, and they find an error in the 1st paragraph.
HOW CAN THAT BE???
We’re so bombarded with information that we don’t actually read anything anymore. We just eyeball, so to ensure your resume is as 100% clear of mistakes as possible, follow these steps.
(Yes, they ARE tedious, but THEY WORK!)
STEP ONE
~ Print out your resume and read it ALOUD from the top to the bottom. Reading aloud helps you hear the flow of information.
~ Make any changes to the resume.
STEP TWO
~ Print out your resume again and read it ALOUD, from the BOTTOM to the TOP. Read it line-by-line, bullet-by-bullet, and use a ruler to guide your eyes. Reading it aloud from bottom to top will help you catch any errors you’ve missed.
~ Make any changes to the resume.
STEP THREE
~ Drop the resume into a grammar check app and look for errors. (I use Grammarly.com)
~ Make any changes to the resume.
~ Drop the resume into the grammar check app a 2nd or even 3rd time because sometimes the results are different.
After all this…you’ll be good to go!
